BCCI Unveils 2026 Return Schedule for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

In a major update for Indian cricket fans, the BCCI has officially confirmed the return dates and venues for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who are set to resume international duties in 2026. The veteran duo, who retired from Test cricket in May 2025, had already stepped away from T20Is after leading India to a memorable T20 World Cup triumph in 2024. Currently, both superstars are active solely in the 50-over format.

The Indian team will embark on a white-ball tour of Australia in October-November 2025, marking Kohli and Sharma’s first on-field appearance since their Test retirement. Following this, they'll take a month-long break before returning to face South Africa in an ODI series from November 30 to December 6.

After the South Africa series, the experienced pair will be back in action in January 2026, when India host New Zealand for a white-ball series. The BCCI, on June 14, revealed the full itinerary for the home series. The three-match ODI series kicks off on January 11 at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara, followed by the second ODI in Rajkot on January 14, and the final game in Indore on January 18. All matches will begin at 1:30 PM IST.

Post the ODI leg, India and New Zealand will compete in a five-match T20I series. While Rohit Sharma remains the ODI skipper, the T20I squad continues under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, with Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain across both white-ball formats.

Following their commitments against New Zealand, Rohit and Kohli will next feature in IPL 2026. With the 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon, the Indian team is expected to play more ODIs throughout the year. Both legends are expected to play a crucial role in India’s World Cup campaign.

Rohit, who captained India to the 2023 World Cup final before falling short against Australia, will be aiming to go one step further in 2027 and end India's long wait for a 50-over world title since 2011.
