Khamenei Says Iran Defeated Israel and U.S. After Ceasefire

On June 25, 2025, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appeared on national television for the first time in weeks to declare a symbolic “victory” over Israel and the United States. His speech followed the announcement of a ceasefire that ended one of the most intense periods of military tension in the region in recent years.

Khamenei, dressed in traditional clerical robes and speaking in a firm tone, claimed Iran had succeeded in standing up to two of its greatest adversaries — politically, militarily, and morally.

Khamenei Praises Iranian Missile Attack

During his speech, Khamenei highlighted the Iranian missile strike on a U.S. base in Qatar, calling it a “slap in the face” to the United States. He said the attack was a clear message that Iran will not be bullied and has the power to respond.

“The Americans thought they could stop us. But it was they who were stopped,” he said.

He also mentioned that the U.S. failed to protect Israel from Iran’s retaliation and that Washington’s influence in the Middle East is weakening.

Ceasefire After Heavy Fighting

The ceasefire came after weeks of cross-border attacks, drone strikes, and international condemnation. Iran’s allies in the region, including Hezbollah and groups in Iraq and Yemen, launched attacks against Israel. In response, Israel targeted Iranian facilities across Syria and Iraq.

Though both sides suffered losses, Khamenei framed the outcome as a win for Iran.

A Message of Resistance and Strength

Khamenei’s main goal in this speech was not just to celebrate military action, but to send a political message: Iran is strong, united, and unwilling to back down from its principles. He said:

“We will never surrender. Our path is clear, and our people are determined.”

He referred to the idea of “Resistance” — a common term used by Iran to describe its ideological fight against Israel and U.S. influence in the Middle East.

What This Means for the Region

Khamenei’s speech signals that even after a ceasefire, Iran is unlikely to soften its position. His words may increase support for Iran among its regional allies but could also raise concerns among Western nations hoping for stability.

Experts believe the speech was meant to:

  • Boost morale among Iranian citizens and military forces.

  • Show leadership after being silent during the conflict.

  • Warn the U.S. and Israel not to underestimate Iran in the future.

International Reaction

While Iran celebrates, Israel and the U.S. have dismissed Khamenei’s statement as propaganda. American officials called the speech “dangerous and misleading,” warning that such rhetoric only increases the chances of more conflict.

Some analysts believe that both Iran and Israel were under pressure to end fighting, as civilian casualties mounted and international diplomacy intensified.
